Remove and Refit of Electrics

Cooper Weston have over a decade of experience within the education sector providing electrical installation and maintenance services around London, Sussex and Surrey areas. Cooper Weston were instructed to remove and refit the electrics of the bathroom and changing areas at a top 20 university, built-in 1849, The Royal Holloway, University of London as part of their modernisation.

The facilities required new electrics which are now more energy-efficient, and safety improvements such as emergency lighting. Whilst not a listed building, it was important for the university to choose a team with experience in updating older buildings.

Removal of existing electrics

The Royal Holloway, University of London’s female and male bathrooms and changing areas have undertaken extensive modernisation.

As part of the project, Cooper Weston was contracted for the removal and disposal of all the old electrics from the bathroom and changing facilities including the:

  • Removal of the power supply
  • Removal of sockets
  • Removal of lighting and fittings
  • Removal of all PIRs (Passive Infrared Sensors)
  • Switching and removal of key switches
  • Once removed, the electrics were taken from the site by the team and recycled where possible.
  • Installation of new electrics

Once the out of date electrics had been removed, the team set about reinstalling new electrics which included:

  • New power supplies
  • New lighting layout and installation
  • New localisated key switches
  • New PIRs as per spec
  • New emergency lighting

In addition to this, the team installed adequate spurs required for the hand dryers, hairdryers and required bathroom appliances.

The new bathrooms and changing facilities are now open to students of the Royal Holloway, the University of London with modern fixtures and fittings used to ensure the site is energy efficient, safe and futureproof for many years.
